As part of the Parish Council's commitment to helping increase the biodiversity of the local area, we have been looking at Parish Council managed areas and in particular, Westfield Green.
We have taken the decision to leave the largest grassed area unmown throughout spring and into summer. Paths will be mown to the benches and the edge of the tarmac paths will also be mown. Later in the summer, when the grasses and wildflowers have set seed, this area will be strimmed down and will then be mown regularly until late autumn. We hope that by doing this we will be encouraging a greater diversity of wildflowers and grasses to colonise the area, and in turn help the insects, bees and other wildlife. We will be monitoring the area and making sure that invasive plants do not take over.
